Capital Home Care for Seniors' caregivers are the heart of our business. They take great pride in building relationships that go far beyond providing care. Their goal is to provide peace of mind as well.

CaregiversRecruiting and maintaining a pool of quality caregivers is an area of enormous responsibility. After all, you are entrusting us with your most precious asset: the life of a loved one. It is a responsibility we take very seriously. And it's an area of ongoing effort and focus for us.

Fortunately, because of our long history and strong reputation in the community, we receive some of our best referrals from our caregivers themselves! We also regularly participate in job fairs, seminars and networking sessions, in order to build our community of qualified, reliable caregivers.

All prospective caregivers must meet with one of our Care Coordinators for a face-to-face interview, in which we assess skill level, acquire necessary reference information, and discuss any preferences regarding locations, hours, and duties. If we feel that a candidate would be a suitable match as a caregiver, we conduct a thorough screening process that includes:

  • Criminal background checks
  • Child abuse clearance
  • Professional and personal references

All training is not equal.

We also subject all approved new hires to a thorough training process, so that they are equipped and ready to deal with a variety of situations. Over the course of three full days of hands-on training, our caregivers are educated on an array of care-related topics:

Our caregivers are educated on precautions designed to prevent transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and other blood-borne pathogens when providing first aid or health care.
HIPAA
The HIPAA Privacy Rule is explained and discussed so our caregivers have a clear understanding of the importance of protecting individuals' medical records and other personal health information.
Our abuse and neglect policy is clearly defined so that each caregiver is aware of the requirement to immediately report all incidents to their program manager so that appropriate action can be taken.
Our caregivers are introduced to various assistive technology devices such as blind/low vision aids, communication devices, and daily living aids so that they are familiar with how these tools may be used in a client's home. They will also be given a tour of our Assistive Technology Demonstration Center by our certified Assistive Technology Specialist, who is available to answer any questions they may have.
Information is presented on the independent living movement and also on rights, choice and preference, and the importance of these concepts to consumers with UCP. A brief overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act is also covered.
A physical therapist provides hands-on demonstrations of proper lifting and transfer procedures, which will help prevent injuries to both the client and the caregiver.

As an organization, we are staunch believers in lifelong learning. That extends to our caregiver training programs as well. Our emphasis on ongoing training and skill development continues throughout a caregiver's employment with us. On a monthly basis, we offer trainings at our Education and Quality Center on specific subject matter related to the senior population. Some of our most recent training topics included: ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer's, and mental health issues. If at any time you have a topic you would like us to address, please let your Care Coordinator know!
