Please don't assume that all training is equal. At Capital Home Care for Seniors, we know that information videos are no substitute for hands-on training. That's why all our caregivers complete a rigorous three full days of on-site, hands-on training covering a wide array of pertinent topics. These include:

 

• Universal Precautions
Our caregivers are educated on precautions designed to prevent transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and other blood-borne pathogens when providing first aid or health care.
• HIPAA
The HIPAA Privacy Rule is explained and discussed so our caregivers have a clear understanding of the importance of protecting individuals' medical records and other personal health information.
• Abuse/Incident Management Reporting
Our abuse and neglect policy is clearly defined so that each caregiver is aware of the requirement to immediately report all incidents to their program manager so that appropriate action can be taken.
• Assistive Technology
Our caregivers are introduced to various assistive technology devices such as blind/low vision aids, communication devices, and daily living aids so that they are familiar with how these tools may be used in a client's home. They will also be given a tour of our Assistive Technology Demonstration Center by our certified Assistive Technology Specialist, who is available to answer any questions they may have.
• Individual/Consumer Rights
Information is presented on the independent living movement and also on rights, choice and preference, and the importance of these concepts to consumers with UCP. A brief overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act is also covered.
• Lifting and Transfer Procedures
A physical therapist provides hands-on demonstrations of proper lifting and transfer procedures, which will help prevent injuries to both the client and the caregiver.

 

For added measure, we have a physical therapist work with our new hire employees to ensure that they are aware of proper Body Mechanics.
