Kathryn Meloni
Came to Capital Home Care through the PDA Waiver program in June 2002
Severe dementia

Katie, as she is lovingly called by her attendants, no longer walks or speaks very much. She has three daughters who have all been very involved in her care. In fact, explains daughter Anna Stewart, it was the girls who chose Capital Home Care from the list of providers given them.

"My sister Mickey works with another consumer's daughter,' Anna explained. "She was so positive and complimentary about the attendants who were working with her mom, that we chose Capital Home Care from the provider list. I am so glad we did."

Anna is quick to point out that each attendant has their own personality: "We have one who is very serene and another who is more animated, but they are both good for Mom. And they both provide excellent care for her."

Lois Sterry
Began receiving services from
Capital Home Care in September 2006

A few years ago Lois needed some assistance in her home. She and her husband Richard began to use our services in September 2006 and were very pleased. Then Lois had a setback that resulted in several months of nursing rehab while her husband experienced some health issues of his own. They were thrilled to return to Capital Home Care's services once both their health crises passed, as they were both unhappy with the care they received elsewhere.

They emphasized that our services are far and above any others they had come into contact with over the years. Most notably, they both spoke very highly of their caregivers who they said had become almost like family to them. While Richard is in good health now, he says he could no longer keep up with the demands of being the sole caregiver for his wife. Perhaps this is most evident is in the freedom and independence the program allows Richard, while at the same time giving him the assurance that his wife is well cared for when he is not there.

Richard explains, "For 30 years now I've been the score keeper for the basketball and football teams in our hometown. That means in the fall and winter I'm usually gone an average of four extra hours a day. Capitol Home Care has been able to step up coverage during those months, providing evening caregivers so that I wouldn't have to miss any of these sporting obligations. The result is that I've been able to continue doing what I love and my wife is able to have her needs met on a daily basis." Just last winter, the school basketball team honored Richard at one of their games for his 30 years of service. Happily, Lois was able to attend the event as well.
